Digital band extensometers are used to measure the relative displacement between two fixed points in space. Essentially, displacement values are recorded by stretching a steel band device combined with a digital comparator between anchored fixities. Band extensometers are frequently used to monitor the displacement behavior of various structures; including but not limited to the convergence of circular or near-circular tunnel openings, displacements in shafts and mine galleries, slopes, viaducts, and bridge piers.
