Digital tape extensometers are used to measure the relative displacement between two fixed points in space. Basically, displacement values are recorded by stretching a steel-band device combined with a digital comparator between anchored fasteners. Band extensometers are often used to monitor the displacement behavior of various structures; including but not limited to the convergence of circular or near-circular tunnel openings, displacements in shafts and mine galleries, slopes, viaducts and bridge piers.
